Lyn has been a part of the Hunter Care Board since its inception in 1985. She also sits on the Board for Life Education Australia.

After completing his Higher School Certificate and becoming a Level 3 Accredited Swimming Coach, Bill went on to be a multi-award winning swimming coach and performance consultant for various athletes, brands and companies.

Bill is the ‘Success Architect’ and owner of Total Performance Concepts Pty Ltd, where he spends his time coaching many of the world’s leading business, sporting organisations and personnel.

Bill’s passions lie in his family, surfing, mountain biking, sports in general and music.

Bill joined the Hunter Care Board in 2003. He also sits on the Board for the Hunter Academy of Sport.



John Davis

John has been a Hunter Life Board Member since it was first established 23 years ago and continues to be committed to its work and success in the Hunter.

John has been a Partner of Sparke Helmore for over 25 years and through that period has undertaken a range of roles, both as a lawyer and as a manager.
As a practitioner, John’s experience has covered property development, planning and environmental law and, more recently, a focus on government contracting, tendering and procurement, particularly procurement relating to infrastructure projects.

John’s clients include State and Commonwealth authorities, health services, private sector health, property, resource and infrastructure developers, mining and port corporations.

Since 1995 John has been a member of the Firm’s Board and for many years was the Board member responsible for the development of the firm’s government practice.

In June 2004 John was elected as the firm’s National Managing Partner, a position he held until July 2009.

Personal interests include surfing, swimming, cycling and as many other outside activities as time allows.  John likes to garden and grow his own vegies, cook and enjoy a meal with family and friends.  He holds a burning ambition to create the great Australian paella.

Chris Hicks

Chris has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2010.

Chris is the Chief Executive Officer of Newcastle University Sport (NUsport), a not for profit company that manages The Forum fitness facilities and other sporting and recreational services in support of the University of Newcastle and the wider community.

Chris is a qualified Accountant with a background in financial management, business administration and systems in the hospitality, retail and building industries.

Personal interests include surfing, surf lifesaving, sport and fitness.

Matthew Chantrey



Matthew is the newest addition to the Hunter Life Education board.

Matthew is currently in Business Banking in Newcastle utilising his wide and varied background in the financial services industry to assist businesses in the Hunter.  Amongst his roles in finance, he has experienced many facets from front line relationship management, through to working for General Managers and heading up teams in Sydney.

Having moved to Newcastle in 2012 with his young, growing family, the opportunity to work with Hunter Life Education utilises his strong sense of community combined with his passion to help children be the best they can be.

Matthew’s personal interests include spending as much time with his family, Football refereeing, fitness of any nature and photography.
